In the music video, ballerinas twirl around Williams in a lavish setting.
The singer said he was informed not to perform his song "Party Like A Russian", which pro-Russian government media outlets claimed made fun of Russian oligarchs, ESPN reported. It was a rare opportunity to see the Original Trophy up close, with more than 800,000 fans in Russian Federation and worldwide making the most of this unique opportunity to come close to the ultimate prize in football, and more than 570,000 marking the occasion by having their photography taken with the Trophy. "A lot of them fleece me but I'm doing this for free".
"I'm so happy and excited to be going back to Russian Federation for such a unique performance", says Williams, who's probably best-known for his songs around the turn of the millennium such as Angels and Rock DJ.
In response, he tweeted: "I didn't mean any disrespect by it at all". It's more of a Monty Python-esque kind of humor. I'm not mocking anybody.
Williams, who has previously performed at private parties organized by wealthy Russian business people, said he loved coming to Russia.
"Something like this happens, and you pinch yourself", he said.
And just when fans thought the performances were over, Williams pumped up the crowd once again, exclaiming, "Can I kick it?!"
Official FIFA ambassador - and former Miss Russia - Victoria Lopyreva then emerged with the official match ball for the World Cup opener, while former Brazil star Ronaldo was accompanied by official mascot Zabivaka.
The competition is set to kick off today (June 14) with an opening game between Saudi Arabia and Russia (who is playing host) at the 80,000 capacity Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, Russia.
