Delon Wright made a number of massive plays late in the fourth quarter, contributing 18 points, including a three-pointer that eventually led to an onslaught in the final minutes.
The Wizards relinquished a five-point lead Wednesday night, allowing the Raptors to take Game 5 with a 108-98 win and go up in the series, 3-2.
Delon Wright scored 11 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter, and Jonas Valanciunas had 14 points and 13 rebounds as the Raptors improved to 5-0 in home Game 5s over the past five years.
Wall, who played the entire second half, gave up two possessions in the fourth quarter, and though he secured the ball during the closing stretch, his first shot attempt led to Toronto streaking out in transition.
The Raptors also overcame Wall, who scored 26 points on 10-of-21 from the floor, but who also committed seven turnovers. We just didn't make shots.
"They crushed us on rebounds", Lowry said. On the season he is averaging 11.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.
It doesn't take a PhD to see that the Raptors have played much better offensively at home in this series. When he was on the floor, the Raptors were a team-best +19. He had six shots on 2-of-8 shooting in Game 3 and seven points on 3-of-7 shooting in Game 4.
DeRozan does a good job of maintaining body and ball control going straight up against Wizards' big men and is often rewarded by the referees. Miles scored a three with 41 seconds left, the punctuation mark on a thrilling ending.
The Warriors finished with a 99-91 Game 5 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday at Oracle Arena, and it did not require coach Steve Kerr to burn some timeouts or break some clipboards to ensure the Warriors closed out their first-round series.
Gortat had six rebounds in the first quarter. I don't think there was any secrets to it. Guys made shots when it was time to, guys made plays when it was time to.
"I think sometimes we get too caught up in being stagnant and watching, whether it's John, or me, or Otto [Porter Jr.], whoever has the ball, we just get too stagnant, just ball-watching too much", Beal continued.
"We love our chances", John Wall said. Wright, the main backup point guard for Toronto with Fred VanVleet nursing a bum shoulder, has scored about 16 points per game at home, many of those back-breaking three-pointers, and just 6.5 points per game in Washington.
Casey has been somewhat mystified by the weak road performances in this series, specifically by the way some of his normally confident players have wilted in unfriendly confines.
"For the most part, we feel like we didn't shoot it well, didn't play a great game and still had an opportunity to win. We've got to shoot more threes, we've got to play faster, but we've also got to be disciplined in knowing what the gameplan is, and we've got to stick with the gameplan".
"Both teams held up banners that said "#TorontoStrong" to honor those affected by the van attack that happened in Toronto on Monday.
Up until that point, the duo were going toe-to-toe with Toronto's guard combo of DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry and giving them a tough time on the offensive end. There was the 25 road wins this season, a franchise record, but the Raptors also had a net rating of plus-4.8 points per 100 possessions away from home, a figure that put them third in the National Basketball Association, behind only wonder-teams Houston and Golden State.
