An Asheville police spokesperson Christina Hallingse told The Hollywood Reporter: "This morning at 6.41 am, the Asheville Police Department responded to the home of actor Harry Anderson where he was found deceased".
The Asheville Police Department, which confirmed the death, did not release a cause but said no foul play was suspected.
Harry also starred in "Dave's World" and once appeared as himself in an episode of "30 Rock".
An accomplished magician, Anderson made numerous appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson to show off his skills and was featured in the 1987 magic special, Harry Anderson's Sideshow.
Judd Apatow paid tribute on Monday afternoon, tweeting: "I interviewed Harry Anderson when I was 15 years old and he was so kind, and frank and hilarious". He became a street performer and reportedly ran a lucrative shell game on the streets of San Francisco for a time.
He received three lead comedy actor Emmy nominations for the sitcom, which also featured an ensemble cast including John Larroquette, Markie Post, Richard Moll, Marsha Warfield and Charles Robinson. They named the character Harry so I'd do not forget to react when someone said my name.
After "Night Court", he played the newspaper columnist Dave Barry on the comedy "Dave's World", which ran on CBS from 1993 to 1997. "That's how I made my living, hustling drinks in bars and quarters on the street".
A People magazine story in 2002 said Anderson disappeared from Hollywood and resurfaced as the owner of a New Orleans magic shop. "I can settle back and do what I want to do". He moved from New Orleans to North Carolina after Hurricane Katrina tore into the former city.
Anderson is survived by two children from his first marriage to Leslie Pollack, and by his current wife Elizabeth Morgan.
