"Among the purposes of the disclosure was to rebut a narrative that had been developing following a story in the WSJ on October 23, 2016, that questioned McCabe's impartiality in overseeing FBI investigations involving [Clinton], and claimed that McCabe had ordered the termination of the [FBI's Clinton Foundation investigation] due to Department of Justice pressure", the report says.

Mr McCabe, who was sacked just two days before his scheduled retirement, denied the report's allegations in a detailed rebuttal statement.
The inspector general said that when investigators asked whether he had instructed aides to provide information in October 2016 to a reporter with The Wall Street Journal, Mr. McCabe said he did not authorize the disclosure and did not know who did.

Attorney Michael Bromwich - a former justice department inspector general and federal prosecutor - sarcastically thanked Trump in a Twitter post for "providing even more material" for a lawsuit he is considering. The inspector general report on McCabe was forwarded to the FBI's Office of Professional Responsibility, which is staffed by career officials and recommended McCabe's dismissal. Trump's pick to replace Comey, Christopher Wray, was sworn in the same day.
It will also look at the early stages of the FBI's investigation into whether Trump or any of his associates helped Russian Federation interfere in the 2016 election. Jerry Nadler, the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, said in a statement.
McCabe, who was sacked a day short of being eligible to receive his full pension, has loudly complained that his dismissal was unwarranted and politically motivated.
The report on McCabe is part of a larger investigation from Horowitz into the FBI's handling of the 2016 investigation into Hillary Clinton's email server. Comey, who was sacked by Trump in May, called the president "unethical, and untethered to the truth", according to excerpts from the book.
