"Once we feel solid about the product market fit, we'll be expanding nationally", Uber mobility product head Jahan Khanna said.
Khosrowshahi, formerly CEO of the Expedia travel booking site, replaced hard-charging co-founder Travis Kalanick in August and faced problems nearly from the start.
A self-driving Uber struck and killed a woman in Tempe, Arizona last month, which occurred in the middle of the night with a driver behind the wheel.
Khosrowshahi, formerly CEO of the Expedia travel booking site, replaced hard-charging co-founder Travis Kalanick in August.
Khosrowshahi said in an appearance on NBC's Today Show that the incident was an "absolute tragedy" and the company is working with authorities to figure out who was at fault. "Going forward, we'll proactively rerun criminal and motor vehicle checks each year, regardless of whether there is a legal obligation to do so". Khosrowshahi says he and his team "believe in" them.
'Any check is better than no check, ' he said. Uber will still have to reach deals with transit agencies and work out logistics, which could require municipal investments in infrastructure.
It still does not intend to do Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint background checks, saying its check of court records and other databases is robust, fair and 'stacks up well against the alternatives'. The ride-hailing company also said it will begin monitoring for drivers who commit new offenses.
Mauriello says that may be true because the Federal Bureau of Investigation database includes only felonies. A pilot program in Denver will automatically send user data to 911 dispatchers. Soon after that, the now-current CEO of the ride-sharing firm found that his company had hidden evidence of an separate extortion-based attack that exposed "25 million names and email addresses, 22 million names and mobile phone numbers, and 600,000 names and driver's license numbers of US Uber drivers and riders", according to the FTC.
Uber is undoubtedly the best cab service providers in the world.
The settlement also required Uber to implement a comprehensive privacy program that protected the personal information the company collected.
'If in fact it does deliver what it promises, then that could be very beneficial to the calling public, ' she said. "I Definitely think that make me feel more safe".
