'Ryan Wilson, the Scotland back-row forward has been cited for an alleged act of foul play by the independent Citing Commissioner appointed by World Rugby at the NatWest 6 Nations match between Scotland and England on Saturday, ' read a statement last night.
Hughes was left furious, with several players from both sides steaming in - but ref Nigel Owens and his assistants missing it. The incident occurred in the first half with No 8 Nathan Hughes.
The Rugby Football Union and its Scottish counterparts have been asked to provide their accounts of the scuffle that took place shortly before Eddie Jones' men were defeated 25-13 in a pulsating Calcutta Cup match.
Wilson, 28, was also at the centre of a tunnel fracas before the game at Murrayfield involving England star Owen Farrell.
Scotland captain John Barclay said he did not see what happened because he was already in the toilet. BBC reporter Sonja Mclaughlan said that Farrell had to be restrained by a number of his teammates having become increasingly angry.
Nothing sums up his game though, quite like this simply sumptuous pass to Huw Jones that set-up Scotland's second-try.
"It was a bit shocking to find myself in the middle of a melee at Murrayfield as it's not something I've ever witnessed before", she said.
It is understood words had been directed towards Ford by Wilson as they walked side by side up the tunnel before kick-off, and that Farrell was coming to his team-mate's defence.
"There's not a lot of space there as Murrayfield has a dividing pillar at the entrance to the tunnel, so the players were suddenly in very close proximity to each other, creating a flashpoint".
