Those in the PS4 firmware beta programme will get their hands on firmware update 5.50 today, and there's a lot that needs testing. The kid will get notifications, so they know how long they have to save their game before playtime is over.
PlayStation 4's latest major update has just rolled out and it brings all new features along with it. The "This PS4" tab will list all the applications that are installed on the PS4 system. Once imported, you can even zoom, crop and preview them in-situ to help get the ideal look on your dashboard.
One of the main changes with the PS4 5.50 update is that the game Library has now been divided into two different areas.
Play-time management: This utility is geared more to parents, or players who can't control their habit. If you want to create a PS4 background from your own images on a USB stick, you'll be able to do that now too. This also works when you're playing music off a USB device. One of the sections allows you to see everything you've purchased on your account, while the other shows only what's now installed on your console.
If you'd like to be considered for all of our System Software Betas, in addition to completing enrolment for this System Software Beta, please also complete the general enrolment form below. Managing Playtime is easy; go to Settings Family Management on your PS4, or sign in to PlayStation Network account as a family manager or guardian on your web browser from your PC or smartphone, to check and manage your child's playtime each day.
Other features coming along with this update include enhancements to the Quick Menu, notifications, and new customization options for Tournaments team pages.
Sony adds: "With supersampling mode, games that render to a higher resolution when connected to a 4K TV will downscale to match the HDTV - allowing PS4 Pro owners to leverage the benefits of an image clarity boost even if they don't own a 4K TV".
You will also be able hide certain items so you can clear off that demo of Killzone Shadow Fall that has been in your library for four years, or remove any trace of Drawn To Death. If the game is no longer accessible because your PSN subscription lapses, a PS Plus symbol will appear on the game with a lock to note that the game is no longer accessible. While gamers may see some framerate issues with the use of this new option, it will be interesting to see how much of a difference the supersampling coming with the PS4 5.50 update actually makes. Sony did not specify when the full release of firmware 5.50 would roll out to all users. Over the course of a console's life, it's all but guaranteed to get new features, interface overhauls, and tweaks to make it more user-friendly.
Some new things have been added to the quick menu and you can now play background music while playing games on PlayStation Now.
