While HTC will be laying low for the upcoming MWC 2018 event, they made a decision to show up at the recent Taiwan 5G industry event and surprise, surprise, a wild HTC U12 appeared out of nowhere showcasing its LTE+ technology. However, This U12 can boast up to gigabit download speeds, which isn't new as the HTC U11 already does that. The HTC U11 had all the right specs that are common to latest flagship phones like 6GB ram, high-resolution display, and an octa-core processor. Evan Blass, who runs evleaks on Twitter, had posted in response to a tweet by iamaniff that the device in the picture was the HTC Imagine, which is the codename for the HTC U12. However, the company hasn't disclosed the name of the upcoming handset. The edges of front looked curved but it isn't clear if it's curved on the glass or with the display. So it's still a mystery whether it will be announced as HTC U12 or something else. The side bezels of the smartphone appear non-existent. This device is a smaller 5.5-inch budget device. Chances are that the fingerprint scanner will be on the back of the phone unless HTC has managed to implement the fingerprint scanner under the display like the Vivo smartphone.
However, the most interesting feature of the unannounced smartphone is the chipset that's powering it, which will likely be Qualcomm's flagship Snapdragon 845 SoC. We already know there won't be a flagship to be introduced at the MWC 2018 but phones are still being developed. We're looking at a Q2 reveal or perhaps even just after the tech event in Barcelona.
