Katherine Smith Lockler posted her frustrated flu-rant to Facebook after coming off a 12-hour shift at the hospital.
The video on Facebook has been seen more than 4.9 million times shared just about 100,000 times. "Please don't bring your healthy children in, especially your newborn baby into the emergency room", to visit other family members or friends who may be sick.
"I saw a father with a little child creeping on the floor in the emergency room and I moved toward him and I stated, 'Hello father, I don't feel that that is an insightful choice, your kid is being presented to some extremely very bad germs on this emergency room floor, '" Lockler said.
"I'll change the names to protect the not-so-innocent", Lockler warns in her video, titled "After Work Thoughts", before sharing some flu-related tales.
"Watch this, I'm gonna teach y'all a magic trick, its unbelievable!"
A Florida nurse working to combat "a cesspool of funky flu" in the emergency room has gained widespread attention from a viral video on social media urging people to take precautions to avoid influenza. "It's awesome", she says as she raises an elbow up to cover her mouth in a common move recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
She added that between 25 to 30 patients are sitting for hours in the emergency waiting rooms. So guess what? Five flu's came in, 15 flu's walk out.
"Please don't come in and say 'I have a fever and I had one Tylenol and it didn't do nothing.'" she said.
In one segment of the video, Lockler pretends to sneeze into her arm as a way to limit the spread of flu-like germs.
Lockler told Pensacola News Journal in a phone interview Wednesday that she has personally witnessed some of the carelessness.
"I think there's a little bit of sarcasm in my voice because the instructions were given so many times and they were not received well", Lockler said.
"They're waiting along with the flu right next to them so guess what?"
Carelessness seemed to be her pet peeve when it came to the flu.
"Also, rather than the father getting what a nurse of 10 years is imparting to him, he stated, 'Eh, it's no major ordeal, it'll construct his safe framework.' So there's an absence of comprehension and an absence of enthusiasm for recognizing what to do to secure themselves some of the time".
"Watch this", she said as she pulled the camera back to fully show the demonstration. "I tend to be sarcastic in all my speaking, but if it's taken wrong I would definitely apologize to that group that misheard my message because of my tone". "We're putting ourselves into the thick of some nasty germs to help".
