The sexed-up, second-rate football league formed as the early 2000s brainchild of WWE ringleader Vince McMahon is set for a surprising second life in 2020. He hinted that the rules would be simpler, the game faster and that it will "be more of the things you want to see and less of what you don't". "I can say, 'Here are the rules, and as long as you are playing football in the stadium for us, you follow these rules, '" he explained.
This time it sounds like fans will actually be getting real football. So what's different this time around? McMahon said the schedule could begin in late January and no cities or TV partners were named. Again, the National Football League is already awesome, but that doesn't mean it can't get better. But despite their relationship, the wrestling mogul said that he doesn't know if Trump will agree with his new idea. McMahon will continue as WWE Chairman & CEO.
McMahon is a longtime friend of Donald Trump (who has made his opinions about kneeling National Football League players crystal clear), and his wife, Linda McMahon, was appointed by Trump to lead the Small Business Administration.
During a conference call to make the announcement, McMahon noted he is now looking into various ways of airing the XFL, including social platforms, television and more.
McMahon is aiming for the relaunched product to kick off in 2020.
But when McMahon was asked specifically about hiring the former San Francisco 49er second-string quarterback, the re-minted football league boss said he absolutely would consider giving Kaepernick a shot, NESN reported.
"It'll have nothing to do with politics or social issues", he said.
Lewis added: "I think you should have a choice".
It sounds, well, better than the original XFL, which - let's face it - was a disaster... aside from some of the cool innovations like mic'd up players and on-field cameras.
Is it really too hard to imagine Trump tweeting about how people should watch the XFL instead of the "failing NFL"? It was announced that this time around the XFL won't use the tricks they tried last time in order to be successful.
