He said they are still working on notifying the families. A man in the home began shooting at task force members, hitting Dep. Hill and York City Police Officer Kyle Pitts.
Pennsylvania Republican Rep. Lou Barletta tweeted: "Please pray for the police officers injured in Harrisburg this morning". The fate of Pierce and the man who shot at the officers was unclear.
The woman being sought in Harrisburg, identified as Shayla Lynette Towles Pierce, was taken into custody at the scene. I couldn't tell from where they were coming from. She did not appear to have a home phone listing.
Investigators identified him as Kevin Sturgis, 31, of Philadelphia.
Hill and Pitts were removed from the back of the house during the confrontation after being shot. He died at a hospital in Harrisburg. He was taken to the hospital and his injuries are said to be not risky, FOX43 detailed.
Two other law enforcement personnel assigned to the U.S. Marshals Task Force were shot and wounded.
The U.S. Marshals Service says 45-year-old Christopher David Hill died Thursday morning at a hospital in Harrisburg. "He's one of our best", said U.S. Marshal Martin Pane. "One of our best".
Two other task force officers, a York city and Harrisburg officer, were injured, according to officials.
"No words can adequately express the sadness we feel at this moment as we contemplate the loss of yet another law enforcement officer in the line of duty", Papenfuse added.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions weighed in on the death of Hill in a statement shortly after the news was released. "Chris Hill's name should also be remembered as synonymous with valor". He did not specifify if the US Marshal was included in the count.
Gov. Tom Wolf ordered state flags to fly at half-staff in Hill's honor until his interment.
