The 2018 Detroit auto show kicked off with the best of the previous year, as the 2018 North American Car & Truck/Utility of the Year winners were announced.
Among the Kia Stinger, Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, the Accord was the victor, thanks to a sleek design and fun-to-drive handling.
About the Honda AccordOver 10 generations and 41 years, American vehicle buyers have made Accord the best-selling auto in America, purchasing more than 13 million Accords.
The Volvo XC60 is the latest model the vehicle company has constructed using its new four-cylinder-only concept. Only new or substantially changed models were eligible for the award, with judges considering innovation, design, safety, driver satisfaction, and value for the dollar as criteria. The Navigator beat out the Chevrolet Colorado and its Ford Expedition brother.
Kumar Galhotra, head of the Lincoln brand, said the award should give the Navigator a boost as it tries to gain traction in the competitive full-size truck-based luxury SUV market. Among the redesigned Honda Odyssey, redesigned Volvo XC60 and brand-new Alfa Romeo Stelvio, the Swede reigned supreme.
Voting for the Car, Utility Vehicle and Truck of the Year began in June 2017, where three rounds of voting narrowed down nine finalists and three winners.
