The final season of the show is currently in production so there will be plenty of time to try to spoil how it all shakes out between now and then.
The hit show - based on the series of fantasy novels by George R.R. Martin chronicling the battle of power for the Iron Throne - has seen a series of shock deaths of major characters over the past seven seasons, along with some surprise returns. Last year, actress Sophie Turner revealed that the final season will return only in 2019, however, this is the first time HBO has officially confirmed it.
HBO confirmed creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss would direct episodes of the six-episode season, along with Bryan Cogman and Dave Hill.
On the other hand, Season 7 which was aired in past summer was of seven episodes while multiple episodes of which were more than an hour long.
As the final season is expected to feature a lot of battle scenes, the show may require more special effects.
Winter is not coming - at least not for another year. As the biggest hit in HBO's history, one the subscription service hoped to continue for additional seasons, keeping the show around awhile long isn't a bad thing. The new season is executive produced by Benioff and Weiss along with Bernadette Caulfield, Frank Doelger, and Carolyn Strauss. Cogman, Guymon Casady, Vince Gerardis and George R.R. Martin as co-executive producers. The 8th season of the show is the last one and it will be shorter than the previous seasons. After all, a final season airing January 1, 2019 is a rather different for fans than one airing December 31, 2019.
