There was, of course, still one more game left on the slate, as the Cowboys had to travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles in their 2017 finale.
The Eagles struggled mightily on third down (2-for-11) after going 1-for-14 last week.
"I'm not concerned", coach Doug Pederson said. "But I've still got a lot of confidence in the guys". Philadelphia's starting quarterback, Nick Foles, only saw action in the first quarter, but he completed 4 of 11 passes for 39 yards, an interception and a 9.3 passer rating. But he has followed up with two poor performances. The game had the feel of a frigid pre-season game where winning and losing didn't matter. "I know the guys are confident in me". I know who I am as a player, and I know what we are as a team.
"Pretty solid for the most part in terms of efficiency and everything", Sudfeld said.
"I've played a lot of football", he said. The Eagles have already clinched home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, and the Cowboys have been mathematically eliminated from the playoff picture. "I can't thank the trainers and coaches enough for just helping me get through this and doing it while being able to play". "There are times when I have to make throws, and there are times when we have to make the catches. I'm going to use that as fuel for next year".
The Cowboys went on to total 301 yards of offense, which included 129 yards rushing and 172 through the air. A holding penalty on Rasul Douglas on an incomplete pass on third down extended the drive and Prescott connected with Butler on a slant on third-and-7.
And then Dan Bailey missed the extra point, which fit in perfectly with the rest of this game.
Foles and company got off to an encouraging start against the Cowboys. Sudfeld then ran 22 yards on another third down and the crowd roared.
In many respects, Sudfeld outplayed Foles on Sunday.
But his supporting cast didn't help, especially wide receiver Torrey Smith, who dropped an easy pass on the opening series. The offense went three-and-out on the first unit's fourth and final series.
"We haven't done what we've wanted to do for the last two weeks", Foles said. "Obviously, you want to put points on the board and stuff, but I never really felt out of rhythm by any means. That's all I care about". It was the first time in a Cowboys-Eagles game since the series began in 1960.
With the offenses struggling, a case could be made that the stars of the game were actually the punters.
The Eagles were able to draft cornerback Sidney Jones in the second round because he ruptured his Achilles tendon preparing for the draft, where he was projected as a top-15 pick. RB Jay Ajayi also was inactive.
Awuzie, a second-round rookie, didn't return after halftime and it was announced he would not return with a shoulder injury.
Eagles: Graham (ankle) and Mills would've played if the game mattered.
