Tennis champion Serena Williams will return to the court in Abu Dhabi this week after almost a year away from the sport.
The tennis gun played her last match in January 2017, which just so happened to be the final of the Australian Open, which she won while secretly preggo with her daughter. While speaking to the press, Serena Williams expressed her delight and showed her dedication to the match.
Serena Williams will make her tennis comeback at the Mubadala World Tennis Championships as women take part in the invitational pre-season opener for the first time.
Excited to make a return to the tennis court in Abu Dhabi, the former world number one said she was honoured to become the first woman to compete in the previously male-only event. She married Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian last month after the pair welcomed their first child Alexis Olympia Ohanian in September.
Williams will face defending French Open champion in an exhibition match.
Nadal was due to feature at the Mubadala World Tennis Championships, which gets underway on December 28.
The Mubadala event had already seen men's world number one Rafael Nadal and three-time Grand Slam victor Stan Wawrinka withdraw. The tennis icon also persuaded the fans to grab the opportunity and attend the match. With news gathering pace on Serena's likely return being in at the Australian Open in Melbourne after confirmation that her name was in the entry list for the first Grand Slam of the year, she has now made the decision to return to the tennis courts a little earlier than expected. So we're anxious to see how this game will turn out for the twenty-three time grand slam champion.
