Caitlyn Frisina, 17, was located in NY, authorities said Friday, with Rian Rodriguez, 27, a family friend and Frisina's father's assistant soccer coach at the high school, authorities said.
The 17-year-old climbed out her bedroom window on Saturday night and left behind her cell phone, which had been wiped clean of data. Frisina has family in NY and Rodriguez has family in Canada and possibly Pennsylvania, Murray Smith, public information officer for the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, said.
The Gainesville Sun reported that the girl and Rian Rodriguez were stopped by a New York State Police officer Friday afternoon in Syracuse.
Frisina, 17, was believed to be headed north with Rian Rodriguez, 27, a boy's soccer coach at the Florida high school where Frisina is a student.
Columbia County deputies say Rodriquez is now charged with interference in child custody.
Frisina was detained and her family has been notified, the sheriff's office said. "We are emotionally drained, but we are absolutely elated to have her safe".
They were also spotted early Sunday evening at a pawn shop in Fayetteville, Hunter said.
Local authorities, aided by agencies including the U.S. Marshal Service, began searching for the pair and the 2001 Mercury Sable in which they were believed to have been traveling. The sheriff will hold a news conference on Monday at 2 p.m. Police were investigating the "blossoming of a potential relationship" between Frisina and Rodriguez.
According to First Coast News, Rodriguez was a coach for the boys' soccer team at Fort White High School.
