"Based on what we've seen in the trial, this amount will make earning these heroes an achievement, but one that will be accessible for all players", said EA DICE's John Wasilczyk.
In response to this, DICE is dropping the number of credits you need to unlock "top heroes" by 75 percent; Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader can now be unlocked at 15,000 credits, while Emperor Palpatine, Chewbacca, and Leia Organa can be unlocked at 10,000 credits.
A representative for EA responded to the thread, saying the "intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes".
Instead of trying to take a criticism head-on in order to quash it, the Star Wars Battlefront 2 issue is now cemented in Reddit history as the worst take ever posted on the site. If you're a fan of Star Wars, this trailer shows why it's the flawless game for you. EA is constantly changing and adding things to the game however, so you can be sure that we'll update our guides to reflect any changes that are made to Star Wars Battlefront 2. And we continue to make adjustments based on your feedback as the game launches worldwide this week.
A part of the fallout around Star Wars Battlefront 2 emerged around the amount required to unlock heroes in the game - iconic characters who can be deployed at certain points during matches, and who are integral to the Heroes vs Villains mode. Those loot boxes, combined with a new unlock system for heroes in which characters are acquired with in-game credits, has attracted no small amount of controversy in the run-up to release.
DICE also confirmed that they will be hosting a Reddit AMA on Wednesday to discuss key topics with players. But with so much other upgradable material bought from the same pool of in-game currency - much of it needed just to stay competitive or vary their fighters' gameplay skills - players felt faced with the choice of slogging through hours of multiplayer while saving up paltry credit payouts for heroes, or extending their grind to earn them by an even more unreasonable length. As such, not only are such loot boxes an off-putting method of getting us to spend more cash on games, but in cases such as Battlefront 2 they represent a terminal flaw from a game design standpoint, too. For those of you that don't want to have anything to do with Origin, trials, or EA at this moment, you still may want to have a look at the videos we recorded below.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 drops you right into the middle of some huge and hectic Star Wars battles from across the series.
It's great to have a no-charge way to pick up extra characters in a game that already costs $60, but when actually doing so is such a comparatively daunting task, it's understandable that some gamers would feel like it's little more than the appearance of offering the characters for free that EA is going for.
