The prosecutor said DNA evidence recovered from the girl's pajama trousers was linked to Maraj.
'We hope that today's verdict will help the family in the healing process, ' Nassau County D.A. Madeline Singas told TMZ.
The girl, who is now 14, testified that Maraj raped and molested her up to four times a week, sometimes multiple times a day, when she and Maraj were home alone. The girl testified that Maraj treated her as his own daughter before he began raping her.
The prosecutors also said DNA evidence found on the girl's pyjama trousers was linked one-in-291 billion match with defendant Maraj.
Minaj has not spoken on the verdict.
The girl's brother, now 10, testified he saw Maraj's "private parts" touching his sister after walking into a bedroom in the home one time in 2015 and seeing them both partially unclothed. He faces 25 years to life behind bars, but his lawyer says they intend to file an appeal.
"The amount of evidence that we had that wasn't allowed in this case is unbelievable", the Garden City lawyer added.
Carol Maraj, Jelani's mother, in her testimony said that the victim's mother said, "It's gonna take lots of money to get out of this one", according to People.com.
A scientist stated that a stain on a pair of the pajamas belonging to the young girl was a 1 in 291 billion matches to Maraj. We're told Minaj never planned to take the stand, and her bro's legal team telling news outlets she was on their witness list was simply false. Maraj would molest the girl when her mother (his then-wife) would go to work.
Maraj's ex-wife vehemently denied this allegation. He will be sentenced on December 14. Civil attorney James R. Ray III briefly represented the mother and testified that he did demand $25 million from Maraj after he was arrested.
