"I have good memories and I really enjoy riding this track", he added.
The Spaniard heads into the race with a 33-point lead over Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso and his first shot at securing a fourth MotoGP title.
As for Marquez, he crashed on his first-flying lap at turn 15, and was able to return to action.
Claiming the remaining top-10 positions during 2017 Sepang MotoGP qualifying on Saturday were Marquez, Team Suzuki Ecstar's Alex Rins, Rins' teammate Andrea Iannone and LCR Honda's Cal Crutchlow.
"It was a very fierce qualification because the time difference is very thin from the start, lucky I got a path that is not solid when doing a quick lap and I feel very good", said the Spanish rider.
"In the past in the dry we've never been very competitive, but I expect it will be different this year".
"We went right, it was not the correct direction".
"We're not at our best at the moment, but I think our race pace is better then our qualifying position", Marc Marquez says. Then we went left, but was too late.
"I had to take my second bike but I didn't feel flawless on it, so I did a lap that was good but not good enough". But we'll see, maybe tomorrow during the afternoon, rain changes everything so we need to see how we can manage. Of course, Pedrosa's presence at the top of the grid, gives them some breathing space, but Dovizioso, the 2004 125cc world champion and a veteran of the circuit at 31, knows a thing or two about climbing places on the racing track.
Italy's Dovizioso, who faces an uphill battle to stop Marquez winning his second straight world championship, clocked 2min 00.671sec, while Marquez was 0.279 slower in fifth on the overall standings.
"We are there, three or four riders who can fight for the podium".
"In the second row, me, Maverick, Lorenzo and also for sure Marquez can fight anyway, so a lot of riders in front that are very strong".
