He has been undergoing treatment for cancer. He started his career as an art director for Kaliyalla kalyanam (1968), Sasi made his directorial debut with Utsavam (1975). In his more than three-decade career, Sasi directed films in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi and worked with stars such as Mohanlal, Mammootty, Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth.
As the news of his death came out, the entire Malayalam film fraternity expressed their condolence on the demise of the legendary director.
IV Sasi brought a change in the South film industry by introducing realistic films to move away from mainstream commercial films. He is also one of the rare directors who had maximum films between 1970 and 1990.
The director was married to the actress Seema whom he directed in Avalude Raavukkal. He was 69 and is survived by wife Seema, son Ani and daughter Anu.
The filmmaker won the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration in the year 1982 for his movie "Aaroodam". He is most popular for films like Avalude Raavukal, Devaasuram, Guru, Eeta, Angaadi, Anubhavam, Ayalkari, Inspector Balram, 1921, Balram Vs Tharadas, Sradha among others. He also played a pivotal role in catapulting actors like Mammootty and Mohanlal to the status of iconic superstars that they are known today.
