The Prime Minister also laid foundation stones of several redevelopment projects in the temple town which suffered extensive damage 2013 flash flood.
The prime minister, who visited Kedarnath shrine today, recalled how he, as the then Chief Minister of Gujarat, had rushed to the shrine and offered help in the aftermath of the devastating floods.
Though Ghani and Tillerson will be in New Delhi at the same time, diplomatic sources did not confirm if they would meet to discuss the new U.S. policy of Afghanistan which President Trump announced in August.
He will be received by Uttarakhand Governor KK Paul, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and officials before he heads for the Himalayan shrine. Modi says that he had a meeting with the then Uttarakhand CM Vijay Bahuguna with his proposals. "From this holy land of Kedarnath, I seek the blessings of Bhole Baba and pledge to devote myself fully to realising the dream of a developed India by the time we mark 75 years of freedom in 2022", PM Modi said. "It is true, Modi ji came to Dehradun, at my residence, gave cheque of Rs 5 Crore for relief on behalf of Gujarat Govt", he said. "Out of 130 crore people, is none capable of redeveloping Kedarnath other than Modiji?"
"As a chief minister of Gujarat I visited Uttarakhand in 2013 and offered to handle reconstruction works..." I went back disappointed.
According to media reports, Modi is also scheduled to lay the foundation stone for various projects on Friday.
Slamming the tactics used by Congress to stop him from laying a helping hand to the shrine which badly needed to be revamped after the floods wreaked havoc on it, Modi said, "I came here to do all that I could for the victims". These include improved facilities for devotees, construction of retaining walls and ghats at the Mandakini and Saraswati rivers, an approach road to the shrine and reconstructing Adi Guru Shankaracharya's tomb which was devastated in 2013.
The Prime Minister called on the workers to take Gujarat on the new height of development at the global level and with more pace.
"Pilgrim numbers had decreased after the 2013 tragedy as people were sceptical if proper infrastructure existed here", Modi said.
