Chelsea have lost their last two league games and earned only a point against Roma in midweek Champions League action and there is fresh speculation over his long term future at Stamford Bridge.
This weekend, Chelsea host Watford - now above the Blues in fourth and enjoying the best-ever start to a Premier League season - with plenty on the line. Now, this season, we are trying to rebuild something at Chelsea.
The Blues have lost back-to-back matches in the English top flight against City and Palace, and they squandered a 2-0 lead before drawing with Roma. "There are many (injury) doubts", Conte said. Conte has publicly pointed to a lack of alternative options in his squad and, with injuries taking their toll, has only one seniormidfielder, Cesc Fàbregas, fully fit following the midweek draw with Roma in the Champions League.
Back to the present day and Conte is under increasing pressure at Stamford Bridge after three losses in the first eight games of the Prem season.
"I don't know about this", said Conte, who has had to reduce the number of training sessions because of the more onerous fixture list. "I have my methods the same as last season when we won the league".
"I think we are doing everything to try to win games".
"To play every game with the same players is a big problem". Maybe for this reason we are having trouble.
"When you play every three days it's impossible to work on the tactical aspect and physical aspect". If you always tell the truth, you can't be afraid of anything'.
The Blues also strolled to the Premier League title last May under Antonio Conte's guidance and, if the back page spread in The Times is anything to go by this morning, then it looks like history may well be set to repeat itself.
Accustomed to the carousel coach sackings of a regime which argues that frequent managerial change has contributed to the club's success, Chelsea staff describe Conte as a "dead man walking".
Conte is aware of the precarious nature of management, not least at Chelsea, but says any discussions with the Blues hierarchy and owner Roman Abramovich must remain private.
