Samsung has announced three new wearable devices at the IFA show in Berlin, with a focus on sports and fitness highlighted by a partnership with Speedo that will see the Speedo On swimming platform featured on two of Samsung's new wearables.
The IconX's charging case holds enough juice for more than two full recharges, and now you can even transfer songs to it using your phone over Bluetooth, just as long as you don't mind moving over your tracks one at a time.
"Perfect companions to the Note8 and the Galaxy S8, our new wearables blend cutting-edge technology with the timeless style and craftsmanship our customers expect from Samsung". The new Gear devices are created to assist with a range of activities, whether it is robust fitness t racking and nutrition, or sleep monitoring and even motivational coaching as a lifestyle companion (and they're cheaper than hiring a 24/7 personal trainer to whip your behind into shape).
The first of these is the Gear Fit2 Pro, the follow-up to Samsung's Gear Fit, a smart band featuring a 34 gram weight, 4GB internal storage, WiFi, Bluetooth, and protection from the elements. It offers a 1.2 inched AMOLED display. Inside, it houses a 1GHz dual-core processor, 4GB of storage, and 768MB of RAM. This is also a durable smartwatch.
Five atmospheres equates to about 40 meters of water resistance, but I don't know if I'd go SCUBA diving with it.
This spinning dial allows you to easily navigate around the Tizen interface and scroll lists, while it also features a button click allowing you to make selections on the watch without having to move your fingers off the bezel. These earphones will be sold in black, gray and pink. Samsung Gear Sport is powered by a dual core processor. Another nifty feature of the Gear Sport is that it lets you control Powerpoint presentations directly from your wrist (Windows 10 only). And of course it supports Samsung Pay. With MIL-STD 810G durability and 5ATM water resistance the Gear Sport and Fit2 Pro bring a strong outdoor game, while the 2018 revision of the Icon X earbuds improves battery life many times over.
The Gear Fit2 Pro is a Global Positioning System sports band with a built-in heart-rate monitor that ties in to Samsung Health.
The Gear Fit2 Pro uses the Super AMOLED 1.5-inch display to provide real-time updates and smartphone notifications. This is protected by Gorilla Glass 3.
Samsung has also announced Samsung Gear Sport at IFA along with Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro.
The new watch isn't won't be replacing the Gear S3 that Samsung introduced previous year - instead it's filling out the line. Apple has already gone all-in with wireless earbuds, and it appears Samsung is doing the same.
McGregor stated that "In 2017, fitness means more than just burning calories in the gym". The smartwatch also comes with a gyroscope, barometer, heart rate sensor and ambient light sensor.
The data from Speedo On is also compatible with Samsung Health, which is Samsung's own fitness tracking platform. The Fit 2 Pro is perhaps unsurprisingly very similar in looks to the excellent Gear Fit 2 that was released late in 2017.
